There are many things to think about when you have 4c hair, and it can be hard to know where to start. One thing that everyone with 4c hair needs is a moisturizing spray.
Moisturizing your hair will keep the moisture in your strands for longer, which means less breakage and frizz! This post will show you how to make five easy DIY moisturizing sprays that will work wonders on your hair.
DIY Moisturizing Spray For 4c Hair

I have been natural for three years, and my natural hair journey became way easier the moment I learnt how to keep my hair moisturized.
The best moisturizers for dry hair are plant-based gels such as Aloe vera. They keep your hair moisturized for several days, and the best part is that they do not leave build up on your scalp or strands.
Store your DIY moisturizing spray in your fridge for no more than five days. You can also use any of these sprays as a pre-shampoo treatment to detangle and get rid of any build-up on your scalp after a protective style.
Aloe vera and coconut milk moisturizer.
This is one of my favourite DIY moisturizing sprays for 4c hair and as a bonus, it smells so delicious.
Aloe vera is a fantastic ingredient for natural hair because it contains lots of vitamins and antioxidants, which help keep your scalp healthy and promote hair growth. In addition, it is an excellent moisturizer for dry, damaged or curly hair because it penetrates deep into the hair strand and hydrates from within.
Coconut milk is also an excellent moisturizer for all hair types because it contains proteins that help to strengthen your strands. Coconut milk will encourage the growth of your hair and will keep it moisturized for several days.
Lavender essential oil is great for hair growth because it contains vitamin B, promoting healthy hair growth. Lavender also has antibacterial and antiseptic properties, which will keep your scalp healthy.
How to make
In a bowl, add two tablespoons each of Aloe vera gel and coconut milk. Add enough water to make it spray. Next, add five drops of lavender essential oil and spray on your hair and scalp at least once a day.
Flaxseed gel and Avocado oil
This is an excellent DIY moisturizing cream for dry hair because it’s high in omega fatty acids, which is perfect for moisturizing dry hair.
Flaxseed gel also contains calcium, iron and magnesium that will help to strengthen your hair.
Avocado oil contains vitamins A, E and D, which help to keep your scalp moisturized for several days. This oil also encourages the growth of new cells in the scalp that promote healthy hair growth.
Rosemary essential oil is excellent for hair growth because it helps in preventing thinning of the edges.
How To Make It
In a bowl, add one tablespoon of flaxseed gel and enough water to cover the seeds. Soak overnight and strain with a cheesecloth to extract flaxseed gel.
Then add a tablespoon of avocado oil and five drops of rosemary essential oil. Slowly add water until it’s the consistency of a liquid spray. Shake before spraying on your hair at least once a day

Xanthan gum and Castor oil spray
This is my all-time favourite moisturizing spray for 4c hair. It will leave your hair moisturized for days, and it’s super easy to make
Xanthan gum is an excellent moisturizer for dry and curly hair because it’s a thickening agent. It will give your hair more volume and definition while keeping it moisturized for several days.
Glycerin is a humectant that moisturizes your hair by attracting water from the atmosphere. Castor oil is a fantastic moisturizer for your hair because it contains fatty acids that will penetrate deep into the strand and hydrate from within.
Peppermint essential oil is also great for hair growth because it is a stimulant for hair follicles.
How To Make It
In a bowl, mix one teaspoon of xanthan gum and a tablespoon of glycerin. Add some water to form the gel. Add three tablespoons of castor oil and five drops of peppermint essential oils. Spray on your hair daily

Marshmallow root and Almond oil
This moisturizing spray is also perfect for detangling dry matted hair and restoring shine to your hair.
Marshmallow root has mucilage that penetrates deep into your hair. It helps to soften, detangle and add shine to your hair.
Sweet almond oil moisturizes your hair and scalp without leaving your strands heavy or greasy. Almond oil is also great for hair growth because it contains vitamin E, a potent antioxidant protecting your strands against free radicals.
Eucalyptus oil is antibacterial and antifungal, so it will keep your scalp free of infections.
How To Make It
In a bowl, add one tablespoon of marshmallow root and enough water to cover the herb. Let it soak overnight and strain with a cheesecloth. Next, add the marshmallow root extract and enough water to fill up about ¾ of it in a bottle.
Add three tablespoons of almond oil and five drops of eucalyptus oil. Shake well before use. Spray on your scalp and hair to keep it moisturized for days.
Okra and Olive oil
This is a simple moisturizing spray. It’s also great for detangling your hair.
Okra gel contains a lot of vitamin E, which is excellent for moisturizing dry and brittle strands prone to breakage.
Honey is a natural humectant that will moisturize your hair and scalp for several days.
Olive oil contains vitamin E and fatty acids that will help to moisturize dry hair for several days. It also seals your cuticles and prevents moisture loss.
How To Make It
In a bowl, add two tablespoons of cut-up okra and enough water to cover the vegetable. Let it soak overnight and strain with cheesecloth to extract the gel. Next, add two tablespoons of olive oil, one tablespoon honey and five drops of rosemary essential oil. Shake well before spraying onto your hair or scalp.
How Do You Keep 4c Hair Moisturized?

Use water- A good moisturizer should contain water. Water is a natural moisturizer and the best way to keep your hair hydrated. Water also helps you retain moisture, especially if you live in a dry environment.
Don’t shampoo too often– Shampooing your hair strips away its natural moisturizers. It’s best to shampoo twice a month and avoid using a clarifying shampoo too often because it will remove all the natural oils from your hair.
Always deep condition– Deep conditioning your hair is the best way to keep it moisturized, and you should use them every time you shampoo. Deep conditioners are great for locking in moisture and keeping your strands hydrated.
Try a protective style– Protective styles such as braids, weaves and crochet hair will help retain your natural moisture. This is because they prevent the harsh winds from drying out your hair.
Use an oil– A little bit of oil goes a long way because it lubricates your strands and helps to seal in the moisture. For example, you can use grapeseed oil, argan oil or avocado oil on your hair before bedtime to help it retain moisture overnight without weighing down your hair.
Don’t use too many products– Using oil and creams may help your hair retain moisture, but it will also weigh down your strands. It would be best to use one or two products maximum so that your hair doesn’t become too oily.
Wash with lukewarm water– Lukewarm water helps seal the hair cuticles and retain moisture in your hair. It’s best to wash your hair with lukewarm water because it won’t strip your hair of moisture.
Don’t neglect the ends– The ends of your hair are prone to dryness because they have been exposed to the environment. Therefore, it’s best to moisturize your hair from tip to root so that you retain moisture in the whole strand.
Don’t over brush your hair- Over-brushing your hair will help dry your strands and make them prone to breakage. Instead, you should use a wide-tooth comb or a detangling brush to comb your hair gently.
Don’t expose your hair to too much heat- Exposing your hair to excess heat will make it prone to dryness. You should use a heat protectant if you want to use a hairdryer or flat iron.
Tuck your ends– The ends of your hair can be the most brittle and dry. Tuck your ends gently in a braid, twist or bun to keep them moisturized and hydrated for longer
Use a satin/ silk scarf or pillowcase– Satin and silk will help retain moisture in your hair. It would be best to use a satin or silk scarf when you sleep at night because it will prevent the harsh winds from drying out your hair.
Conclusion
A DIY moisturizing spray for 4c hair is easy to make and inexpensive. Since it’s homemade, you can tweak the recipe to suit your hair type.
The best part is that they are more effective at keeping your hair moisturized, soft and manageable than most store-bought products that contain alcohol, fragrances and other ingredients that can make your hair dry and brittle.
